Volunteer Assignment Descriptions

Mentor: Volunteers pick up students and attend classes with them at Entrada Adult High School. They also support them in their academic studies. (Approximately 3 hours, 2 times a week)

One-to-One: Volunteers work with students during direct instruction time and read with them one-on-one during individual reading time. Students are taught incremental reading lessons in small groups. (Volunteers needed for 1 weekly, 3-hour time period Tuesday or Wednesday)

Reading Horizon: Volunteers help support students using the online Reading Horizons reading program and workbook, and other educational computer sites. (Volunteers needed for 1 weekly, 3-hour time period Tuesday or Wednesday)

EnglishConnect: Volunteers interact with students as they are taught oral language and other communication skills using the Oral Language and other oral language programs. (Volunteers needed for 1 weekly, 3-hour time period Tuesday or Wednesday)

Intermediate: Volunteers interact with and assist intermediate students during reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. (Volunteers needed for 1 weekly, 3-hour time period Tuesday or Wednesday)

Childcare: Volunteers will help with activities and child care in the rooms provided. Child care for our students’ children makes it possible for them to attend class. (Volunteers needed for 1 weekly, 3-hour time period Tuesday or Wednesday)

Speaking Partners for Adults: Volunteer will spend a one hour session each week talking with an assigned student. The purpose of the conversation is to encourage the student to speak in English. The volunteer will help with vocabulary and pronunciation, thereby building the student’s confidence when speaking. This can be done remotely vie Zoom or on the phone.
